Why should I apply for Free & Reduced Meals?

Families who apply and are approved for free or reduced-price meals pay zero or reduced prices for breakfast and lunch at school.  In addition, Talkeetna Elementary is a Title 1 funded school, and we receive federal funds to help support our students.  Please complete the Free and Reduced Meals Application in order to help us ensure we continue to qualify for these essential federal dollars.  Even if your child/ren do not typically eat school lunch or you feel you may not qualify, we request that you please complete this form.

This year, our Title 1 funds are used to provide student classroom support, library staff which facilitates the access and organization of the school library, and supplemental student materials.

Thank you for completing this form.  We appreciate the support.   You will need your student’s ID number in order to apply online.  You can look up your student’s ID through your ParentVUE account or by calling the school at (907)733-9400.

Welcome Letter from Principal Drew Larrabee

    Dear Talkeetna Elementary Families,

Greetings once again as we gear up for an exciting new school year at Talkeetna Elementary! I hope this email finds you well and eagerly anticipating the start of the year. As the new Principal of Talkeetna Elementary, I am excited to be part of this wonderful school.

I would like to share a few important things to remember regarding our weekly schedule.  We have made a change that we believe will enhance the overall learning experience for our students.

Starting this academic year, we will be transitioning to a "Late Start Mondays" schedule, replacing the previous "Early Release Wednesdays." Here's how the new schedule will work:

    Late Start Mondays:

    • School doors will open at 9:20 AM, which includes the bus arrival time.

    • Classes will begin at 9:30 AM.

    • This delayed start will provide our educators with valuable time for collaborative planning and professional development, ensuring that we continue to deliver high-quality instruction.

    Regular Wednesdays:

    • Wednesdays will follow a regular schedule with school doors opening at the usual time of 8:20 AM and classes starting promptly at 8:30 AM.

We believe that this schedule adjustment will allow us to serve our students' academic needs better while still maintaining a consistent routine throughout the week. The change aims to optimize instructional time and provide our teachers with opportunities for ongoing professional growth, ultimately benefiting the entire Talkeetna Elementary community. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we implement these changes to create the best possible learning environment for our students.

To kick off the school year, don't forget about our open house on Monday, Aug. 14th from 4:30 to 5:30. This event is a chance for us to come together as a community and also an opportunity for you to connect with fellow parents and the building staff.

Please take a moment to review the 2023-2024 Enrollment Checklist.  Schedule links have also been included below.  If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don't hesitate to reach out to the school office.
