Did you know that joining clubs in middle school can profoundly impact your overall growth and development? Clubs provide a unique platform for you to explore your interests, develop new skills, and build lasting friendships along the way.
You can discover your passions and talents outside the regular academic curriculum by participating in clubs. Whether you're interested in art, music, sports, STEM, or any other area of interest, there's a club out there waiting for you!
Club participation not only allows you to pursue your hobbies, but it also helps to foster essential life skills. Working collaboratively with others, communicating effectively, and managing time are just a few of the valuable abilities you'll gain through club involvement. These skills will undoubtedly benefit you through middle school and beyond.
Moreover, clubs provide a supportive and inclusive environment where you can express yourself, share ideas, and learn from peers. It's a space to embrace individuality and find like-minded individuals who share your passions and interests.
So, take advantage of this fantastic opportunity! Explore the diverse range of clubs available at our school, find the ones that resonate with you, and join in on the fun. Whether it's after school, during lunch breaks, or even online, there's a club waiting to welcome you with open arms.
Remember, middle school is about more than just academics. It's a time for self-discovery, personal growth, and expanding your horizons. Clubs provide the perfect avenue to do just that.
If you're interested in joining a club or would like more information, please get in touch with our front office at (907) 761-1500. They will be more than happy to guide you in finding the perfect club for you.

STAR Team is a group of CMS students that meets weekly to help educate students about suicide prevention and bullying prevention. This follows Alaska Statute 14.30.362, which requires the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development to review and approve suicide awareness and prevention training to satisfy the statutory requirement. The group attempts to present to every 4C classroom at CMS. 8th-grade STAR Team members travel to local elementary schools to present an anti-bullying presentation. STAR members also assist with October’s Red Ribbon Week and volunteer at Thrive events when help is needed.
STAR Presentations aim to help students prevent suicide by teaching the concept of S.T.A.R.:
• Share that you care • Tell them they are not alone • Ask if they are thinking about suicide • Reach out to a trusted adult. The lesson also helps students to • Identify warning signs of suicide, • Offer hope with words and actions • Get help for someone they’re worried about.

This club meets year-round, but students can enter at any time before each competition.
We have three competitions throughout the year the year. The first competition is Oral interpretation: students memorize a dramatic, humorous, or Shakespearian selection that they perform either alone or with one other person. The second competition is Debate. We prepare for both sides of 2 pre-selected topics and can take up to 4 teams of 3 students to the competition. The last competition is Original Oratory. The categories are expository, persuasive, and improv. The students write 3–5-minute speeches or get 2 minutes to prepare for an impromptu speech.
