2024 Tennis season begins July 31, 2024 with daily practices. The schedule is as follows:

• July 31- through August 8th We practice DAILY 9am-12pm for conditioning and skills.

• August 9th - practices are daily 2:30-5:45pm at the Colony High School Courts.

• All Valley Tennis Jamboree @ PHS Saturday, August 10th 10am
• Fairbanks Invitational Friday-Saturday, August 23rd-24th
• First Varsity Competition August 20th 3:30 pm @ Wasilla
• First JV/Open Competition August 15th 3:30 pm @Palmer
• Kodiak Invitational @ Kodiak September 6th - 7th
• Valley Invitational @ AK Club September 12th - 14th

• HAVE A CURRENT SPORTS PHYSICAL (this may not expire during the season)
• REGISTER ON PlanetHS
• COMPLETE PAYMENT ON SCHOOL CASH   or MAKE PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS WITH MR. EWART IN THE ACTIVITIES OFFICE

STAY INFORMED

All players are required to sign up BAND app messaging.   This is the PRIMARY method of communication between coaches and players.  If there are delays or changes due to weather, etc., messages will go out via BAND app.  Parents are welcome to register for these messages too and communicate with other parents about car-pooling, etc.  

All players are required to join Tennis in Google Classroom. This is where daily attendance, COVID-19 records, player contact information, and schedule updates will be posted. Google classroom code is:  YFXKABV

Equipment:

I suggest sneakers that are specifically designed for tennis.  Unfortunately, you may have to buy these online as there is a pretty limited selection in Alaska.   “Tennis”-specific shoes have reinforcements on the sides of the shoe that regular running shoes do not have.  With all of the side to side footwork on the tennis court, the difference in support is really very noticeable.  You can play in regular sneakers, but you will really notice a difference with real tennis shoes. Racquets:

If you have never, ever played…I suggest that you come to the first practice and try out a few different racquets.  I have a couple of loaners to let kids try.  Weight and grip size are the biggest things to look for and you really want to make sure the racquet is comfortable in your hand.   My racquet was over $200, which is why I suggest that you try out a few before you make a big purchase.

i ALSO HAVE A PURCHASE AGREEMENT WITH dIADAM sPORTS. tHEY MAKE EXCELLENT TENNIS EQUIPMENT.  i HAVE RACQUETS THAT PLAYERS CAN DEMO AND CAN BE PURCHASED FOR MUCH LESS THAN RETAIL. cHECK OUT THEIR PRODUCTS HERE:   DIADAM

 *Note, players are expected to have their own racquets beyond the trial period. 

 Clothing:

You will receive a team jersey ($50 Deposit required). You need to supply your own SOLID, black tennis skirt/skort(girls) or shorts WITH POCKETS (boys).   Target and Kohl’s both carry these in the fitness section, or you can order online just about anywhere.
