Program Overview

  • Mat-Su Middle College School (MSMCS) is a collaboration between the Mat-Su Borough School District, the University of Alaska, and the Mat-Su College Campus.

Mission: Mat-Su Middle College School provides a program that implements structured support, resources, opportunities, and academic success for first-time college students. MSMCS students will grow in character, academics, life skills and the arts as high school and college students. Students are empowered to take an active role in their individual success. Accomplish this, MSMCS students must:

    • Believe in themselves & have a desire to push themselves.
    • Self-advocate through faculty, staff, or site administrator as necessary.
    • Prepare for your classes and bring all necessary materials to class.
    • Ask for help when the need arises. Each student is a member of a larger team that is working for success.
    • Get involved in student government, athletics, and other school-sponsored organizations and activities.

Mat-Su Middle College School is committed to the ongoing education of students by building college readiness. We strive to provide a college-focused academic program, with comprehensive student support and through a dynamic high school and college partnership. As a high school and college staff build a culture of continuous improvement for the betterment of our students.

    Vision:

MSMCS is a high school for students interested in taking college courses.  The MSMCS program is for juniors and seniors and the Alaska Natives in Science & Engineering Program (ANSEP) is open to all high school grades. Full-time enrollment is required for students participating in either program. While in attendance, students may participate in district wide course share, CTE, JROTC, music and foreign language courses at their home high school. Students may also participate in activities and athletics at their home high school.

    Highlights of student success include:

    • Successfully completing college coursework will result in a student earning a MSBSD high school diploma and credits towards a college degree.
    • Mat-Su Middle College School students earn an average of 45 college credits over two years of enrollment.
    • Mat-Su Middle College School is a choice school for junior and senior students.
    • Students build college readiness skills to achieve success at college-level academics.
    • Participate in the early education, aviation and health field programs at MSMCS.
