I am very much looking forward to this year at Mat-Su Middle College School, and I strongly believe that every student who has gained admission has the potential to excel academically. In my experience since the founding of our school, intellectual curiosity and the avoidance of procrastination are the two keys to success. A student's initial placement scores are not nearly as important as the study and work habits the student develops during his or her first semester.
If you are a student in one of my classes, I use Google Classroom to distribute course materials, so you need to look in your Google Classroom account to see what is there.
Students, my expectations of you are:
1. Be on time.
2. Be focused.
3. Do the work.
4. Ask for help when you need it.
5. Help others when they need it.
If you can consistently perform these five actions, you will not only learn a lot in my classes, you will excel in just about anything you ever try to accomplish. Teaching English, history and government is the just the means by which I intend to do something much more important: help you learn to set priorities, to concentrate your mind, to work hard, and to both seek and give assistance when necessary. My goal is to help you learn how to learn.
If you have any questions, or encounter any difficulties with the course work, please come see me. I am also frequently available through John.Robertson@matsuk12.us. Feel free to email me at any hour of any day. I might not be able to respond immediately, but you can only benefit yourself by trying to contact me.
