    Health
     
    Health care is one of the fastest growing fields in industry, and a career in health care can offer tremendous job satisfaction and excellent compensation. Students 
    with skills in health care will be well positioned for many career options after high school, and CTHS offers students a variety of courses to develop these skills!
     
    Health occupations
     
     
    An introduction to health care, students enrolled in the semester long Health Occupations course are given a brief overview of various health related careers and the skills they will need in any health related career. In the semester long Introduction to Pharmacy course, students learn pharmacy skills that will benefit them in any health field. In addition, students who excel in the course may have the opportunity to earn college credit. 
     
    Health Occupations
          
    A year long course targeted at sophomores, juniors, and seniors Medical Terminology helps students master the language of medicine. It makes an excellent accompaniment to Anatomy and Physiology and will give students who are interested in being doctors, nurses, medical assistants, or technicians a solid foundation to build upon. 
     
    CNA
     
    Students who are interested in becoming Certified Nursing Assistants are in luck! Mat-Su Career & Technical High School's CNA program meets the educational requirements for certification of a Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of Alaska. Available to upperclassmen ages 17 and older, the course will train students to measure and record vital signs, provide personal care and hygiene, position, transfer and ambulate, provide unit care, and other activities of daily living. CPR and First Aid will be included. The training will enable students to work in long term care and acute care facilities. Training will include both classroom activities and clinical experiences with industry partners in hospitals, nursing homes and extended care facilities. This class is an excellent opportunity for students considering careers in health care and/or nursing. This course is a 3 period block course with 48 hour clinicals in an industry setting, over 140 hours in classroom and skills time. For a total of 2 high school credits, UAA tech prep credits can be bought also.
