• About APS

    The Alaska Performance Scholarship provides an opportunity for Alaska high school students to earn a scholarship to help cover the cost of an Alaska post-secondary education. Alaska residents who graduate from an Alaska high school in 2011 or later and meet the qualifying requirements are eligible for an APS award.

  • Eligibility Requirements Include:

    • Alaska residents who graduate from an Alaska high school (public, private, or home school);
    • Take a rigorous curriculum;
    • Earn minimum of 2.5 GPA;
    • Meet qualifying score on college/career entrance exam
  • Steps to Qualify

    • Meet with your high school counselor to develop a course plan to complete the APS curriculum.
    • Work to achieve the highest GPA you can.
    • Prepare for and take the SAT and/or ACT test. Take the test early in case you wish to retake the test for a better score. Explore options based on WorkKeys scores.
    • Research participating Alaska colleges and training programs and select one that is best for you.
    • File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) soon after October 1, the fall before the semester starts, for every year you want to use the APS award.
    • (Optional) Create an Alaska Student Aid Portal (ASAP) through the State of Alaska in order to better track your progress. Some account features available will be the ability to review your eligibility for the APS, verify your award amount, track your grant and scholarship use to date and update your contact information.
